Gourd Place Cards

This is the second year in a row Shay and I have hosted Canadian Thanksgiving at our place - which happens to fall (pun intended) in October.  I do the cooking - and Shay does the decorating.  These place cards are a culmination of both our ideas - easy to make and add the perfect touch to any Thanksgiving table. 


What You Will Need:

  • Mini pumpkins or gourds
  • Knife
  • Card Stock/Place cards
  • Labels
  • Pen or printer


  1. I like things to looks perfect  - as I have odd looking printing,  so I printed everyone’s names onto clear labels using my computer.  If you don’t have the things necessary to do this - just print the guests names on the place cards nicely and voila.

  2. Using a sharp serrated knife - make a slice in the top of the pumpkin about a 1/2 cm deep between the stem and the side. 

  3. Then facing the knife away from the stem, slice diagonally towards the first slice.

  4. Make sure it is a thin slice and on enough of an angle so that the card can sit nicely.

  5. Once the cuts have been made - wedge the place cards in.  I find the gourds “bleed” a little and this actually works well to adhere the cards in and stabilize them.

  6. Place them at each persons seat and you’re done! 

    Tip: I like to seat couples and best friends away from each other forcing people who might not normally chat make a new friend and be more engaged, makes for a more interesting evening!

DIY wire ring / Masnis drót gyuru

Thanks to everyone for submitting your amazingly creative DIY ideas for my first ever Fan Feature blog! I had a blast looking through everything and after much debate with my co-blogger extraordinaire Michaela, we have decided to post Niki’s blog on how to make a DIY eternity/bow tie ring (you all know my love for the infinity symbol as I have it tattooed on my wrist)!

It’s so simple, soooo cute, and you can design it anyway you want! Here’s her post:

This is a very easy do-it-yourself idea. It takes only 5 minutes to make.

Ez egy nagyon egyszerű csináld magad ötlet, és az elkészítése mindössze 5 percet vesz igénybe.


What you’ll need:
  • wire
  • cutting tool
  • nailpolish bottle (or anything roller-shaped)

Amire szükség lesz:

  • drót
  • vágó eszköz
  • körömlakkos üveg (vagy bármilyen henger alakú tárgy)


  1. Cut an about 10 cm long piece of wire.
  2. Wrap it around the top of the nailpolish bottle, and cross the two ends.
  3. Make a little loop with one of the ends.
  4. Then repeat it with the other end.
  5. Cut off the leftover ends.

  2. Tekerjük körbe a körömlakkos üveg körül, és keresztezzük a szárait.
  3. Alakítsunk egy kis hurkot az egyik szárából.
  4. Majd ismételjük meg a másik oldallal is.
  5. Vágjuk le a maradék végeket.

Summer-fy Your Water

Summer time - the weather gets warmer and our body temperatures rise - in turn making us NEED to drink more water than normal and keep us nice and hydrated!  Water though is oh so boring and sometimes needs a little make-over.  These ice cubes are easy, fast and make plain water refreshing, fun and look amazing!

What You Will Need:


  • Ice cube tray
  • Lemons - cut into slices, and then into halves
  • Mint Leaves
  • Water…duh


  1. Make sure you have enough mint leaves to fill the ice cube tray.  Then place them in the bottom of the tray.


  2. Cut your lemons into slices and then into halves so that they fit into the little ice cube shape (depending on the size of the lemon you may need to cut the slices into quarters…you can do any shape your heart desires)

  3. Fill the tray with water, slowly…not on full blast.  Place in the freezer and leave overnight.


  4. Serve in any glass of your choice and enjoy!  This is also a great way to impress your guests while looking like you have it together - no cutting or picking required!


    Note:  Don’t just stop at lemons and mint - try variations like orange, lavender, rosemary, basil, lime, grapefruit, edible flowers, raspberries, blackberries - any berries!!!!
