Duck Tape DIY

So it’s prom season & that means fabulous spring dresses in all shapes and styles. It was when I was watching Project Runway reruns the other day that one style in particular “stuck” with me: Duck Tape®!

Every year, Duck Tape® does the #StuckatProm competition where DIYers send in photos of their fabulous creations for a chance to win a $5000 scholarship. Some of the dresses are amazing and totally had me jonesing for a little DIY action of my own, so after a lot of research (and a little shopping :) I present to you: the Duck Tape® Clutch!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Duck Tape®

Cardboard

Scissors

1. Step one…choose a pattern! I found some really fun colors and patterns and settled on cherry for the clutch.

 2. Start by taking a flat piece of cardboard and folding it into your desired shape. I went with a basic fold over design that was about 10 inches long and 5 inches tall after I folded it. My piece of cardboard was a little long, so I cut a 4 inch piece off the end and saved it to make a divider!

  3. To attach the divider secure it on each side with pieces of duck tape and make sure you’re using the color you want as the inside liner (I chose black). After it’s attached, cover the entire inside of the clutch with tape, then do the same thing on the outside with the color or pattern that you want (I chose cherry).

  4. Once the cardboard is covered on the inside and outside, you can get as creative as you want with the styling. I decided to outline my clutch with a layer of black, sort of like a border for the cherry pattern.

 5. Final step…secure the sides to hold it all together. I took 2 pieces of tape and cut one smaller than the other, then taped them together (sticky sides touching) so the smaller piece was centered on the bigger piece. Then I attached it to the side of the clutch.

 6. And Voila! My very own DIY clutch :)
